What's Digital Gathering?

Digital Gathering was borne out of an exploration of digital ministry. Not long after I was ordained in 2012, I fell into a group of pastors and lay leaders (through social media, of course!) who were faithfully experimenting with ministry in digital spaces, setting up best practices, and pioneering the idea of connecting with others via social media. By 2016, I was preaching live from my church's worship service to Facebook.

I launched Digital Gathering (or DG) in 2017 as part of my Doctor of Ministry in Preaching coursework. (The earlier broadcasts were on Facebook Live and are no longer available.) These DG broadcasts included a brief liturgy to set the preached word into its proper context of Scripture and prayer. Developed years before the COVID-19 pandemic forced many faith communities to online spaces, DG offered a place for people to explore Scripture, prayer, and reflection - solely online.

Digital Gathering originally was held weekly on Facebook, moving to YouTube early in 2020. As part of Wholly Preaching, I have relaunched DG on its original YouTube channel (see below). Please subscribe to DG on YouTube so you don't miss a video!
